Abstract

Auf fast jedem Produkt der modernen Warenwelt, das mit dem menschlichen Körper in Berührung kommt, findet sich ein Hinweis auf Reinheit. Werbung für Reinheit hat aber eine lange Vorgeschichte. Bereits im ausgehenden Mittelalter warben Bruderschaften mit dem Motiv von Marias Brüsten für ihre allerreinste und heilversprechende Milch. Im späten 19. Jahrhundert versprachen Bilder alpiner Idylle reine Schweizer Milch, während Frauen mit makellosem Teint in Zeitschriften für Kosmetika warben.Allen diesen Bildern ist gemein, dass die auf ihnen dargestellte Reinheit fiktiv ist: Das »Produkt« Marienmilch entsteht ebensowenig in den Brüsten der Muttergottes wie die Schweizer Kondensmilch auf den Alpen, und die vermeintlich porentief reine Haut wird von Millionen von Bakterien, Kleinstlebewesen und Milben bevölkert. Wie gelingt die visuelle Vermarktung von Reinheit trotzdem, und mit welchen Strategien bringen die Spezialist:innen aus der Werbung den »Schmutz« zum Verschwinden, der jedes Versprechen von Reinheit miterzeugt? Diesen Fragen widmet sich der zweite Band von cache, gestaltet von der Forschungsgruppe »Reinheit verkaufen« am Historischen Seminar der Universität Luzern.
