Abstract

Nâṣir-‘Alî-Mathnawîs This manuscript is now IO Islamic 1646 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Hermann Ethé, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, 2 vols. (Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1, number 213 here with notations and hyperlinks]. 1646 Mathnawîs by Nâṣir ‘Alî. A number of mathnawîs by the same Nâṣir ‘Alî, the first of which, on ff. 1b-52a, is the same religious poem which appears in most copies of Nâṣir ‘Alî’s poetical works (see Rieu, Sprenger, Pertsch, and Bodleian Cat., loc. cit.), and begins: الهى ذرّۀ درد ( دردى read) بجان ريز شرر در پنبه زار استخوان ريز A special copy of this mathnawî is noticed in W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 697, No. 15. On ff. 53a-105 a large number of smaller mathnawîs are added, no doubt by the same Nâṣir ‘Alî, the first of which begins: بنام خداوند ناز آفرين – جگرهاى عاشق گداز آفرين The others are partly Sâḳînâmas, partly encomiums of the Kalandarî monks, all of mystical import. The mathnawî on Kashmîr, noticed in Rieu ii. p. 700a, is not found among them. No date. No. 213, ff. 105, 2 coll., each ll. 17; Nasta’lîḳ; all the headings (invariably in verses and sometimes very long( written in red ink; size, 91/2 in. by 53/8 in.
