This talk was given at the DataCite EMEA Expert Call on 2024-03-12, introducing the importance of data provenance and data traceability for data citation in the climate domain. The use case of CMIP6 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6) data used in the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is presented, which is related to the work carried out in the RDA Complex Citation WG and IPCC TG-Data and the IPCC DDC.
