Abstract

This slide deck was presented as part of the OPeNDAP Developer's Workshop, Winter 2007 that was held from February 21-23, 2007 at the NCAR Foothills Laboratory in Boulder, CO. Summary of the slide deck: This slide deck provides the introduction to the OPeNDAP Developer's Meeting that was held in February 2007. The presentation covered various aspects of the Data Access Protocol (DAP), OPeNDAP's mission, vision, and practical considerations. It began with definitions of DAP and OPeNDAP, followed by a historical overview of the Distributed Oceanographic Data System (DODS) and considerations in OPeNDAP's development, including the broad vision of achieving syntactic and semantic consistency in data exchange. The mission and vision statements emphasized the goal of facilitating data access and interoperability across disciplines. Practical considerations, such as robust funding and communication channels, were discussed, along with elements of the OPeNDAP system including servers, clients, and ancillary information services. The workshop introduction also outlined ongoing developments like the transition to DAP4, the Hyrax architecture, and the role of projects in guiding OPeNDAP's evolution.
