Abstract

This presentation was part of a 2-day workshop provided for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology during 15-16 October 2007. The workshop targets system administrators whose task is to setup a data service for interactive users, batch processes, and high level web services, that will access netcdf, hdf, or freeform data in a file system or SQL data in a database. The workshop provides them with the information they need to install and configure Hyrax along with some background on available clients so they can test their servers and give basic advice to users. Summary of the slide deck: The slide deck covers various services within Hyrax, including HTML form interface, ASCII data responses, metadata formatting, cataloging, and GridFTP access. The HTML interface provides a basic way to access data, while ASCII serves as a low-common denominator format for easy data reading, demonstrated through spreadsheet applications. Metadata can be retrieved in HTML format by adding '.info' to the DAP URL, and catalogs facilitate navigation through data sources, with examples provided for both OPeNDAP and THREDDS catalogs. GridFTP, although not directly supported by Hyrax, can be accessed through the BES for transferring DAP responses. The presentation also discusses high-performance solutions for numerical grid computations within BES, highlighting the distribution of computational tasks across multiple computing nodes and the centralization of data browsing and inversion launches.
