Abstract The exponential growth of nanotechnologies since the beginning of this century has raised questions about health and environmental risks, as well as social implications such as capital concentration, unemployment, and others. Faced with these problems, different groups and social classes have positioned themselves scientifically and politically. This text presents a range of different positions and explains their intimate relationship with the class situation and the factions that support them. It is a theoretical map useful for public policies on science and technology, as well as for the activities of social and labor organizations.
