This book is the outcome of the national research project Between Toledo and Portugal: Contemporary Views and Reflections on a Landscape Shaped by the Tagus River (HAR2011-14107-E), carried out by the ARPACUR research group at the University of Extremadura, and gathers interdisciplinary studies that examine water as a key force shaping cultural landscapes, architecture, hydraulic infrastructures, and territorial identity. Its main contribution lies in combining perspectives from art history, geography, architecture, engineering, and heritage management, revealing how water structures heritage, territory, and sustainability. The first section focuses on the Tagus basin in Extremadura, including emblematic sites such as Los Barruecos, Granadilla, and the International Tagus, and addresses colonization towns, historical cartography, river restoration, industrial heritage, and nature tourism. The second section widens the comparative scope with case studies from Italy, Portugal, Madrid, Granada, Sicily, and A Coruña, analyzing historic water-supply systems, heritage legislation, ports, canals, and traditional irrigation networks. Overall, the volume demonstrates that water is a structuring axis of landscape and a strategic opportunity for sustainable rural development. DIGITAL EDITION: The work also has a digital edition, ISBN: 978-84-9852-392-8 (similar to the printed edition).
