TOPICAL ISSUES OF BREEDING AND SELECTION IN DOG BREEDING

Abstract

The publication focuses on the preservation and improvement of dog breeds. Themain purpose of this process is to select and match parents with the best genetic characteristics toproduce offspring with the desired qualities. The principles of pedigree breeding allow us to preserveand enhance the positive aspects of the breed, as well as reduce the risk of hereditary diseases anddefects. One of the main advantages of breeding dogs is the ability to confirm the purebred nature ofthe breed. In dog breeding, this is achieved through the use of unrelated, related and lineage breeding. This is particularly important for purebred dogs, for which blood purity and breed specificity areimportant criteria. Breeding also allows for the control and management of genetic diversity within abreed, which helps to preserve and improve their unique traits and characteristics.
