Abstract

Euryomma Stein Euryomma Stein, 1899: 19. Type species: hispaniense Stein, 1899 = peregrinum (Meigen, 1826). Diagnosis Head of male and female without sexual dimorphism, dichoptic in both (Figure 1B); male with two pairs of orb; thorax with first presutural dc less than half or with half the length of the second presutural seta; two strong katepisternal setae with a weak median one; wing with vein A 2 slightly curved and imaginary extension of anal veins meeting near margin of the wing (Figure 1A); abdomen wider before posterior margin of second tergite; male with cercal plate formed by cerci fused on different parts (basally, median area or apically); male without bacilliform process (Figure 1E); aedeagus sclerotized and elongated; female with two spherical spermathecae; larval integument reticulated and bearing spicules (Chillcott 1961; Roskošný et al. 1997). Geographical distribution Most species of Euryomma are found in the Neotropical region, and two species occur in the Nearctic region (Chillcott 1961). One species, E. peregrinum (Meigen, 1826), is cosmopolitan (Pont 1977a, b, 1989). Key to the males of Euryomma found in Colombia 1. Scutum with five vittae following acr and dc setae, and the intra-alar area.. 2 Scutum with three vittae following acr and dc setae....................... 4 2. Wing faintly brownish, with apical third, between C vein and apical half of R 2+3 vein darkened, haltere yellowish (dark basally or not); frontal vitta dark brown.................................................................. 3 Wing yellowish, haltere always yellowish; frontal vitta orange-reddish with apical margins reddish...................... Euryomma cornuatum sp. nov. 3. Length of postpedicel 2.5 times the length of pedicel. Male terminalia with epandrium bearing long and sparse setae; surstylus narrow apically, with sparse, short setae on apical half; cercal plate setulose and acute apically (Figure 3G)....................................... Euryomma uwa sp. nov. Length of postpedicel 3.5 times the length of pedicel. Male terminalia with epandrium bearing short setae, particularly on basal half; surstylus triangular, short, with sparse, short setae on apex and inner surface; cercal plate scarcely setulose and round apically (Figure 3D)........... Euryomma guane sp. nov. 4. Hind tibia brown on apical half, yellow basally with a brown ring; arista brown with basal third yellow. Surstylus triangular (Figure 3A,F)................ 5 Hind tibia yellow; arista brown. Surstylus long and narrow (Figure 3B,E).. 6 5. Dorsocentral vittae on scutum conspicuous and complete, middle vitta well defined; length of postpedicel 3.6 times the length of pedicel. Male terminalia with surstylus fused with epandrium; cercal plate strongly concave, pointed apically, with long and curved setae (Figure 3F).. Euryomma tahami sp. nov. Dorsocentral vittae on scutum relatively inconspicuous, well-defined posteriorly to postsutural dc; length of postpedicel twice the length of pedicel. Male terminalia with surstylus articulated with epandrium; cercal plate elongate, concave, slightly pointed apically, with short setae and apex strongly setose (Figure 3A).................................... Euryomma aburrae sp. nov. 6. Frontal vitta dark brown with apical margin yellowish; scape and pedicel brown with suture and apical margin yellowish; length of postpedicel 2.4 times the length of pedicel. Male terminalia with surstylus straight with curved apex (Figure 3B); cercal plate fused on apical third (V-shaped), apex round (Figure 3B)................................... Euryomma chitarera sp. nov. Frontal vitta dark brown; scape and generally pedicel yellow, occasionally brownish; length of postpedicel 1.5 times the length of pedicel. Male terminalia with surstylus curved (Figure 3E); cercal plate fused on apical half (V-shaped), apex square (Figure 3E)............. Euryomma muisca sp. nov.
