Buddhismus in der Schweiz: Geschichte, Stand und Zentren

Abstract

Erste Anfänge des Buddhismus in der Schweiz reichen ins 19. und frühe 20. Jahrhundert zurück, doch erst ab den 1960er Jahren mit dem Bau des Klösterlichen Tibet-Instituts und ab den1970er Jahren mit der Gründungen von zahlreichen buddhistischen Gruppen und Zentren setzte eine Etablierung auf Dauer ein. Im 21. Jahrhundert besteht eine große Vielfalt buddhistischer Schulen und Traditionen und zahlreiche buddhistische Sanghas als Teil internationaler Organisationen und Netzwerke sind in der Schweiz etabliert. Der Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die Geschichte des Buddhismus in der Schweiz, gefolgt von der Darstellung buddhistischer Lehrer und Lehrerinnen und exemplarischer Gruppen und Zentren in der Theravāda- und Mahāyāna-Tradition und dem tibetischen Buddhismus sowie von Immigranten errichteten Kulturzentren und Klöstern. Der Beitrag schließt mit der Darstellung nationaler Organisationsformen und Überlegungen zu nationalen Besonderheiten des Buddhismus in der Schweiz.
