SÚHRN Klinická chémia a laboratórna medicína je srdcom modernej zdravotnej starostlivosti a zohráva dôležitú úlohu pri skríningu chorôb, diagnostike, hodnotení rizika, výbere liečby, monitorovaní liečby, prognóze a ďalších aspektoch klinického rozhodovania. Je preto základom efektívnej starostlivosti o pacienta. Pacienti naprieč Európou majú právo očakávať vysoké štandardy laboratórnej medicíny kdekoľvek sa nachádzajú v systéme zdravotnej starostlivosti. Nová generácia lekárov v odbore klinická biochémia chýba. Súčasná generácia skúsených odborníkov postráda nástupcov a pokračovateľov. Nastupujúca generácia má vysoké očakávania a iný vkus. Potrebuje nájsť nové prístupy, zmysluplnú prácu a získať spoločenskú prestíž. ABSTRACT Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine are at the heart of modern healthcare and play a vital role in screening for disease, diagnosis, risk assessment, treatment selection, monitoring of therapy, prognosis, and other aspects of clinical decision-making. It is thus central to effective patient care. Patients across Europe have the right to expect high standards of Laboratory medicine wherever they are in the healthcare system. In the field of clinical biochemistry, a new generation of doctors is missing. The current generation of experienced professionals lacks successors and followers. The upcoming generation of doctors has high expectations and different tastes. They need to find new approaches, meaningful work, and to reach social prestige.
