Abstract

Özet – Bu araştırmanın amacı, blok tabanlı programlama öğretiminde oyunlaştırma yaklaşımı kullanımının başarı ve motivasyona etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmada, öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını, 47 ortaokul 6. sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada kullanılan veri toplama araçları; Scratch akademik başarı testi, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen blok tabanlı kodlamaya yönelik motivasyon ölçeği ve açık uçlu anket formudur. Uygulama sürecinde, sekiz hafta boyunca deney grubu oyunlaştırma yaklaşımıyla, kontrol grubu ise geleneksel yöntemle (düz anlatım ve gösterip yaptırma) blok tabanlı programlama eğitimi almıştır. Uygulamanın öncesinde iki gruba da başarı testi öntest olarak, uygulama sonrasında ise iki gruba da başarı testi, motivasyon ölçeği ve açık uçlu anket formu uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre, oyunlaştırma yaklaşımıyla öğrenim gören grubun başarısı diğer gruba göre anlamlı derecede daha fazla bulunmuş, grupların motivasyonları arasında anlamlı bir farklılık ortaya çıkmamıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin büyük bir çoğunluğunun oyunlaştırma yaklaşımı ile blok tabanlı programlama öğretimine ilişkin olumlu görüşlere sahip oldukları görülmüştür. Araştırma sonunda blok tabanlı programlama öğretiminde oyunlaştırma yaklaşımının kullanılabileceği önerilmektedir. Abstract – The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of using gamification approach in block-based programming instruction on achievement and motivation. In the research, a pretest-posttest control group experimental design was used. The participants of the study consisted of 47 secondary school 6th grade students. The data collection tools used in the study were the Scratch academic achievement test, the motivation scale for block-based programming developed by the researchers and the open-ended questionnaire form. During the implementation process, the experimental group received block-based programming instruction with the gamification approach and the control group received block-based programming instruction with the traditional method (lecture and demonstration-performance) for eight weeks. The achievement test was administered to both groups as a pretest before the application, and the achievement test, motivation scale and open-ended questionnaire form were administered to both groups after the application. According to the findings of the study, the achievement of the group learning with the gamification approach was found to be significantly higher than the other group, while there was no significant difference between the motivation of the groups. In addition, it was seen that the majority of the students had positive opinions about teaching block-based programming with the gamification approach. At the end of the research, it is suggested that gamification approach can be used in block-based programming instruction.
