Processed MAVEN/NGIMS and MRO/MCS data and software

Abstract

Dataset description The first data file is named 'maven2015newMethod.p'. It is a python ‘pickle’ file which can be read into a dictionary or struct in many languages. The variables are defined in the table below Variable Name Variable Shape Description tt [323] Time on a daily cadence pers [400] Period of oscillation of amplitude of WN1 and WN2 waves. Units of sols altc [11] Altitude. Units of km amp1 [11, 323] Amplitude of WN1. Function of time (tt) and altitude (altc) amp2 [11, 323] Amplitude of WN2. Function of time (tt) and altitude (altc) amp1amp [11, 323, 400] Spectra of the WN1 amplitude. Function of altitude (altc), time (tt), and period (pers). Units of percent amp2amp [11, 323, 400] Spectra of the WN2 amplitude. Function of altitude (altc), time (tt), and period (pers). Units of percent amp1fal95 [11, 323, 400] 95% False alarm level of the WN1 amplitude. Amplitudes higher than this have only a 5% chance of being produced in the absence of a real periodic signal. Function of altitude (altc), time (tt), and period (pers). Units of percent Amp2fal95 [11, 323, 400] 95% False alarm level of the WN2 amplitude. Amplitudes higher than this have only a 5% chance of being produced in the absence of a real periodic signal. Function of altitude (altc), time (tt), and period (pers). Units of percent The second data file is named ‘pseudoLonData_bootstrap7.p' It is also a python pickle file and contains the following variables defined in the table below Variable Name Variable Shape Description tts [91] Time on a daily cadence freqs [52] Wavenumber (|s-n|). unitless Amps [52, 11, 91] Amplitude as a function of wavenumber (freqs), altitude (altc), and time (tts). Units of #/cc faps [52, 11, 91] 95% false alarm level of the amplitude as a function of wavenumber (freqs), altitude (altc), and time (tts). Units of #/cc yms [52, 11, 91] Mean abundance. Units of #/cc The final data file is a zipped folder named ‘mvn_ngi_all.zip’ containing the level 2 data from MAVEN’s neutral gas and ion mass spectrometer (NGIMS). These are used for raw densities, and the documentation is provided in the MAVEN Software Interface Specification (SIS): https://atmos.nmsu.edu/PDS/data/PDS4/MAVEN/ngims_bundle/document/ngims_pds_sis_v03_r01.pdf
