Abstract: The objective of this article is to analyze the effect of the handwritten mind map on the non-linear collaborative planning of the foreign language text summary (L2). As a result, two groups participated in this experiment (G1 & G2). In the first modality, the students of (G1) were required to carry out, individually, a linear planning of their text summaries in L2. While, in the second modality, the students of (G2) were asked to carry out, in pairs, a non-linear planning of their text summaries in L2 by means of a handwritten mind map. The results of our experiment reveal that co-planning the text summary in L2 using the handwritten mind map helped (G2) students to select, prioritize and reformulate more relevant ideas than (G1) students, having worked individually. Finding also show that working in pairs allowed the students of (G2) to plan their text summaries better in L2 than the students of (G1) who worked individually. Keywords: Linear planning, non-linear planning, pairs, handwritten mind map, text summary in L2.
