Abstract

En su larga trayectoria vital, Pedro de Valencia (Lima, c. 1550; La Paz, 1631), descendiente de los conquistadores de la isla de Santo Domingo, fue ascendiendo en la carrera eclesiástica hasta alcanzar la mitra del obispado de La Paz. Formado musicalmente como seise en la catedral de Lima, fue diestro cantor y tañedor de tecla, sirviendo en su juventud en la capilla del virrey Francisco de Toledo como organista y clavecinista. In his long life, Pedro de Valencia (Lima, c. 1550; La Paz, 1631), a descendant of the conquistadors of the island of Santo Domingo, rose through the ecclesiastical ranks until he reached the mitre of the bishopric of La Paz. Musically trained as a seise in the cathedral of Lima, he was a skilled cantor and keyboard player, serving in his youth in the chapel of Viceroy Francisco de Toledo as organist and harpsichordist.
