Ancient Bay Tree in Northern California

Ancient Bay Tree in Northern California

Abstract

This bay tree is more than ten feet in diameter. The center part of this tree is long gone in the center of this trunk, the sprouts around its base became the sucessor trees, and are a clone of the center tree. About forty feet away is another cluster of bays that are likely clones of this one. There were no glaciers here. This could be more much than a few hundred years old, and people have lived here for at least 11,000 years. There is a closeup of the fungus on this tree here; https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/tree-fungus-50c6167a27554c9191d2b82dc1f6d153 Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
