Abstract

In katholisch geprägten Landschaften ist der Begriff "Wetterkreuz" heute noch weit verbreitet. Schlichte, mit zwei oder drei Querbalken versehene Kreuze standen einst an den Feldern und solltne diese vor "bösen Wettern" schützen. Auch Erinnerungen an tödlichen Blitzschlägen wurden so auftrecht erhalten. Der Lößnitzer Pfarrer und Chronist, Magister Oesfeld, weist in seiner 1777 erschienen Chronik erstmals im Erzgebirge den Flurnamen "Erbe bei dem Wettercreutz" im Jahre 1499 nach und spricht von der Wiederentdeckung desselben. "Das Wetter-Creutz ist auf dem Schneppenberge am Zwönitzer Wege in diesem Frühjahre von jemand wieder endecket und aufgerichtet worden. Es ist von rothen Sandstein und eine Elle hoch. Vermutlich hat das Gewitter an dem Ort einen Menschen erschlagen." Der Heimatforscher Joachim Seyffarth regte mit einem Beitrag die Wiederaufrichtung des Kreuzes an, das mit Hilfe von Spenden im Rahmen der ABM neu gesetzt und am 4.
