Abstract

Presidió este lugar una talla de la Virgen de Monserrat, ya que su antiguo propietario, el Presbitero Duarte Quirós dedicó la casa a las vacaciones anuales de los estudiantes del colegio convictorio de Monserrat. Por otra parte el 15 de Marzo de 1878 llegó a Caroya el primer contingente de inmigrantes provenientes del norte de Italia, principalmente friulanos, atraído por la política estatal, que buscaba agricultores europeos a quienes se ofrecía tierras de labranza. Entre diciembre de 1886 y enero de 1887, decenas de colonos instalados en la estancia de Caroya fallecieron por una epidemia de cólera. Ante el miedo por la propagación de la enfermedad un sacerdote friulano, el padre José Bonoris, instó a una jornada de plegarias y rezos. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
