Abstract

As a result of the recently created CNPq research group, "Piano works by composers from Minas Gerais from the 20th century", this article addresses data on the choro Pica-Pau by Carmen Vasconcellos, emeritus professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais School of Music, Brazil, whose musical oeuvre has gradually and steadily gaining academic attention since her death in 2001. The objective of this work is to publicize the name and work of this Brazilian composer, whose activities took place not only in the context of composition, but also performance and teaching. With regards to methodology, the authors used data available in books, digital platforms and also academic works completed on several aspects of Vasconcello´s production. For the score analysis, the book Guidelines for Style Analysis (1992) by Jan LaRue served as a guide for the data presented in this article. Completing this study is the availability of the score for the choro Pica-Pau, edited by the composer herself, and an access QR Code for Pica-Pau's performance made by one of the authors of this text.
