Conicera rectangularis Liu 2000

Abstract

35. Conicera rectangularis Liu (Figs. 28A–F) Conicera rectangularis Liu, 2000: 169 (♂, China: Yunnan). Description. Male. Body length 1.15–1.33 mm. Frons dark brown. Supra-antennal setae present. Lower fronto-orbital setae absent. Lower interfrontal setae 1/2 length of upper interfrontal setae, and the distance between each other a little shorter than that between upper interfrontal setae. First flagellomere (Fig. 28A) brown, 0.28 mm long, with an aspect ratio of 3: 1; arista 0.40 mm long,1.43 times as long as that of first flagellomere. Palpus dark brown, with 6 short setae apically. Thorax dark brown. Mid and hind legs brown, fore leg yellowish brown. Fore tibia with 13 small near-dorsal setulae, the uppermost being longer than the rest. Mid femur (Fig. 28B) with naked area on basal 1/3 and with a long and relatively thin groove on apical half, without an apical process. Wing length 1.16 mm. Costal index 0.43, costal ratio 1.8:1, costal setulae short, 0.028 –0.032 mm long, second section with 10 dorsal setulae. Rs without basisetula. Halter dark brown. Abdominal tergites dark brown. Terminalia brown. Left surstylus (Figs. 28C, E) reniform, thinner basally, with 16 pointed inner teeth arranged in two rows. Right surstylus (Figs. 28D, F) arc-shaped apically, with 16 pointed inner teeth arranged in two rows. With a membranous, rectangular basidorsal process. Female. Unknown. Specimens examined. 1♂ (holotype), Yunnan, Mengyang, 9-May-1991, Guangchun Liu; 1♂ (paratype), Yunnan, Mengyang, 6-May-1991, Guangchun Liu; 1♂, Yunnan, Nujiang Lushui, Yunnan, 21-Aug-2020, Guangchun Liu; 2♂, Guangdong, Nanling, Jiulianshan, 6-Jun-2020, Zhengyan Zhou. Distribution. China (Guangdong, Yunnan). Remarks. The sense-organ of mid femur of this species was ignored in the original description (see Liu 2000). This species is similar to C. kempi Brunetti, 1924, it differs from the latter by narrow sensory groove, shorter naked area of mid femur and rectangular membranous basidorsal process. In the key of Disney (1990), the species runs to couplet 6. to C. flavipalpus Beyer, 1958, it is different from the latter by long sensory groove, brown palpus and long tongue-like left surstylus. It is distinguished from C. procericornis Schmitz, 1927 by long groove and different costal ratios.
