Abstract

Dans les années 2010, durant ma recherche doctorale consacrée à l'expression et à la politisation du sentiment d'appartenance guadeloupéen, la manière dont mes interlocuteurs m'identifiaient en termes raciaux et coloristes avait des effets sur les modalités d'immersion dans les différents terrains de mon ethnographie multisituée. Cette enquête portait notamment d'organisations antico- lonialistes et de branches locales de partis politiques dont la population était majoritairement noire, d'un réseau d'entrepreneurs presque entièrement blanc créole et d'associations culturelles de Guadeloupéens d'ascendance indienne. Cet article analyse et évalue réflexivement les manières dont mes interlocuteurs m'identifiaient sur les deux premiers terrains d'enquête, tout en expliquant comment j'ai surmonté, avec plus ou moins de succès, les difficultés que cela impliquait. Parce que j'étais perçu comme un anthropologue partiellement autochtone et comme un Afro-Guadeloupéen de Paris à la peau foncée, la classe, l'expérience migratoire et l'instruction nuançaient le rôle de la race-couleur sans l'annuler.
