Abstract

Cet article propose un retour réflexif sur les conditions raciales d'une enquête de terrain sur l'implantation électo- rale et partisane du Rassemblement national. La saillance du fait racial est étonnamment peu analysée dans la littérature, en particulier française, sur l'extrême droite. À partir de l'analyse d'expériences de terrain et d'une lecture critique des travaux existants, l'article souligne comment les identifications raciales à l'œuvre au cours de l'enquête, en l'occurrence les identifications blanches, conditionnent l'accès au terrain et la nature des données récoltées. La blanchité a des effets empiriques concrets sur la conduite de la recherche, par la production de formes d'invisibili- sation (préservant le·la chercheur·e d'un marquage racial négatif) et de connivence (autorisant son inclusion dans un « nous » racialisé). La prise au sérieux de la question raciale engage également des questionnements normatifs quant aux façons d'envisager les appels à l'« empathie » et à la « compréhension » face à cet objet qu'est l'extrême droite.
