Abstract

Dohrniphora knabi Malloch (Figs 187–188, 313) Dohrniphora knabi Malloch, 1912: 431–432. Holotype. ♂, PANAMA: Cabima, 18.v.1911, A. Busck [LACM ENT 113308] (USNM; examined). Species recognition. This species is extremely similar in hind femur structure to D. biseriata Borgmeier. It differs in having a dark brown body (including the palpus) and hind coxal lobe with a well-developed ventral process. Description. Body length: 1.72–2.72 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, brown. Palpus of normal size, brown. Thorax: Scutum dark brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron brown. Mean costal length 0.53 wing length, range 0.52–0.54. Halter brown. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 3–4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa light brown. Hind coxal lobe brown, rounded dorsally, with narrow ventral process (Fig. 313). Posterior face of hind femur with curved double line of peglike setae along ventral margin of hind femur (Figs 187–188). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia dark brown, except cercus yellow. Distribution. Central America to Brazil. Other material examined. 29♂ specimens from the following localities: BRAZIL: Rondonia: 62 km SE Ariquemes (EMUS). COLOMBIA: Amazonas: PNN Amacayacu (LACM). COSTA RICA: Heredia: La Selva Biological Station; Limón: 7 km SW Bribri; Puntarenas: 24 km W Chacarita (LACM, MUCR); San José: Braulio Carrillo NP (LACM). GUYANA: Berbice: Dubulay Ranch (LACM). PANAMA: Canal Zone: Barro Colorado Island (LACM, MIUP).
