RDM4Lab: A Research Data Management Tool for Laboratory Praktikum Courses

Abstract

The Department of Chemistry at the TU Munich offers the "Technische Chemie Praktikum" Laboratory Course to Chemistry and Chemical Engineering undergraduate students. The laboratory coursework includes catalysis-related experiments that are performed by the students. The course typically has ~100 students enrolled each semester and each student performs at least eight different experiments. This results in more than 800 reports generated each year that are evaluated by the designated supervisors (PhD students and Postdocs). Presently, there is no central repository for systematically storing the reports submitted by the students. Therefore, as part of NFDI4Cat, we have developed a Research Data Management tool, "RDM4Lab," for systematically storing the data generated in this Laboratory Course in compliance with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) storage principles.
