Abstract

A tradição de pesquisas sobre a história da imprensa no CHAM, Centro de Humanidades (CHAM, NOVA FCSH / UAc) teve, como movimento propulsor o estímulo dado pelo antigo Departamento de História das Ideias e Estudos Políticos, entre as décadas de 1980 e 1990, a um grupo de alunos dentre os quais se destacaram Adelaide Vieira Machado, João Luís Lisboa, João Pedro Ferreira, José Augusto dos Santos Alves e Luís Crespo de Andrade. José Augusto dos Santos Alves dedicou-se desde então exclusivamente ao estudo da hi stória da imprensa portuguesa do século XIX. Tendo feito a maior parte de suas pesquisas no ambiente inspirador da Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, Santos Alves faleceu em 2021 e a realização deste simpósio é uma homenagem que o CHAM presta a esse notável investigador.
