The emergence of data science as a field of study has seen rapid growth in the US academic setting. The techniques of data science are also fueling research innovation. This talk will explore how we, as librarians, can respond to this trend. Drawing on my experience at UC Berkeley with the Berkeley Institute for Data Science , at UCSD with their nascent data science initiative, and through the recent IMLS funded workshop on Data Science in Libraries, I can give context to what’s happening in US academic libraries around data science and lead an interactive session on how that corresponds to South African libraries.
