Martyr Dramas 15-1700

Abstract

This is a catalogue of martyr dramas written and published between 1500 and 1700. Minimal definition of martyr drama as a literary genre: A text written in the dramatic mode which represents the exemplary death of an individual who is considered holy by a Christian community. Background of the Publication: This catalogue is an appendix to my PhD thesis "Between Calvary and Parnussus. A Literary History of the Early Modern Martyr Drama", handed in at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen, January 2024. For further explanation of the catalogue, cf. the 'Explanation' sheet within the file.
