Uncovering wall-shear stress dynamics from neural-network enhanced fluid flow measurements

Abstract

This dataset is part of the following publication: E. Lagemann, S. L. Brunton, C. Lagemann, "Uncovering wall-shear stress dynamics from neural-network enhanced fluid flow measurements", 2024, Proceedings of the Royal Society A (arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/2310.11147) The dataset contains experimental particle-image velocimetry (PIV) data and corresponding calibration images of three test cases: turbulent channel flow (TCF), wavy turbulent channel flow (TWCF), elastic blood vessel flow (VESSEL). TCF data: The TCF data consist of 5 measurement runs (M1-M5) with identical conditions at a friction Reynolds number of 1000. The measurement plane is oriented in streamwise/wall-normal direction at the channel centerline. Seeding: DEHS with a mean diameter of 3 um. Camera: Photron SA3 with Tamron 180 mm lens. Laser: Quantronix Darwin Duo 40. Frame rate: 2000 Hz. Puls distance: 0.000163 s. Temperature: 283.15 K. Calibration: dot distance of 5 mm. TWCF data: The wavy wall contour is a sine wave with an amplitude of 5 mm (0.1 channel half height) and a wavelength of 100 mm (2 channel half heights). Friction Reynolds number of 200. The measurement plane is oriented in streamwise/wall-normal direction at the channel centerline. Seeding: DEHS with a mean diameter of 3 um. Camera: PCO edge 5.5 with Zeiss 100 mm macro lens. Laser: New Wave Solo 200XT. Frame rate: 15 Hz. Puls distance: 0.000350 s. Temperature: 298.15 K. Calibration: dot distance of 5 mm. VESSEL data: An oscillatory flow is generated in the closed circuit by a controlled piston pump. The fluid flow is a water-glycerin mixture, which approximates the blood flow properties and matches the refractive index of the vessel model. Reynolds number: 390, Womersley number: 5.27. Vessel material: RTV615. Measurement plane: streamwise-radial. Seeding: Hollow glass spheres with a mean diameter of 10 um. Camera: Fastcam PCI 1024 with Tamron 180 mm lens. Laser: Quantronix Darwin Duo 40. Frame rate: 200 Hz. Puls distance: 0.006 s. Temperature: 298.75 K. Density: 1143.3. Dynamic viscosity: 0.006422 Calibration: millimeter paper.
