This is the dataset used in Pearse et al 2023 American Journal of Botany "The evolution of glandularity as a defense against herbivores in the tarweed clade". The data were collected as measurements from a common rearing of tarweed (Madiinae) plant species in a greenhouse in Illinois. Collection details of those species and rearing details are in the manuscript. Data include information about the growth and phenology of plants, measurements of glandular and simple trichomes, and growth and consumption rates of an herbivore (Heliotis virescens) fed plant buds and in a bioassay.
