Advancing Transparency Enhancing Tools for Cloud-Native Architectures and Engineering

Abstract

Transparency, i.e. having precise information on all data categories, purpose, legal basis, and storage limitation specifications, etc., is a necessary precondition for most of the core principles relating to the processing of personal data (cf. Art. 5 GDPR). Data controllers have to take appropriate measures to provide the data subject with the mentioned transparency information accordingly (Art. 12–14 GDPR). This obligation is often fulfilled by compiling a textual privacy statement. However, many studies illustrate that data subjects are not able to understand its contents and consequences, for instance, according to involved third-party data sharing or third-country transfers. We propose new Transparency Enhancing Technologies to address these issues. We provide the original poster and an Extended Abstract about the topic.
