Democracia y diversidad

Abstract

Este volumen presenta ocho formas de pensar el complejo tema de la democracia en México incorporando una mirada atenta sobre la diversidad. Las prácticas sociales asociadas con la democracia rara vez contemplan el hecho de que al interior de ese fenómeno social y cultural ocurren manifestaciones múltiples y complejas, tales como la concepción de los derechos humanos, la corrupción, la aplastante hegemonía de unos partidos políticos sobre otros, la forma como la violencia social afecta la participación, el comportamiento electoral y político de los grupos humanos, los significados, las prácticas y las representaciones que conjuntos particulares, como las mujeres y las juventudes, tienen sobre temas políticos específicos. Estas reflexiones se encuentran atravesadas por el origen disciplinar de las autoras y los autores de los capítulos: la ciencia política y la psicología social. El texto es un llamado a la defensa de la diversidad y, en consecuencia, al de la democracia, en un escenario que parece poco propicio para preservarla en su mejor versión. Con este libro, patrocinado por el Departamento de Sociología de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Unidad Iztapalapa, se completa el proyecto Colección 50, mismo que conmemora el medio siglo de actividades ininterrumpidas por parte de esta comunidad académica.
