# Research integrity in Instructions for Authors in Japanese medical journals using ICMJE Recommendations: a descriptive literature study ## Description of the data and file structure The dataset (csv) includes nine files below. Data of Nos. 1) to 3) files were used in Table 1 (Background information for the evaluated medical journals) in the article. 1\) *Background_information_ICMJE:* Background information of ICMJE member journals 2\) *Background_information_Eng:* Background information of JAMS English-language journals 3\) *Background_information_Ja:* Background information of JAMS Japanese-language journals Data of Nos. 4) to 6) files were used in Table 2 (Evaluation of research integrity topics, including those described in the ICMJE Recommendations) in the article. 4\) *Integirty_topics_ICMJE:* Integrity topics of ICMJE member journals 5\) *Integirty_topics_Eng:* Integrity topics of JAMS English-language journals 6\) *Integrity_topics_Ja:* Integrity topics of JAMS Japanese-language journals Data of Nos. 7) to 9) files were used in Table 3 (Content of COI descriptions) in the article. 7\) *COI_description_ICMJE:* ICMJE member journal numbers that required ICMJE description forms 8\) *COI_description_Eng:* JAMS English-language journal numbers that required ICMJE description forms 9\) *COI_description_Ja:* JAMS Japanese-language journal numbers that required ICMJE description forms ### Abbreviation N/A indicates not applicable. ## Sharing/Access information Journal background data were derived from the following sources as of September 1, 2021: * FY2020 Impact Factors were searched from Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports. [https://jcr.clarivate.com](https://jcr.clarivate.com) * English-language and Japanese-language journals were categorized from the list of the Japanese Medical Science Federation (written in Japanese). [https://www.jmsf.or.jp/accession/](https://www.jmsf.or.jp/accession/) * Open Access Journals were searched from the Directory of Open Access Journals website by the Infrastructure Services for Open Access C.I.C. [https://doaj.org/](https://doaj.org/) Integrity topic and COI data were derived from the following sources as of September 1, 2021: * ICMJE member journals [http://www.icmje.org/about-icmje/faqs/icmje-membership/](http://www.icmje.org/about-icmje/faqs/icmje-membership/) * JAMS subcommittee English- and Japanese-language journals (written in Japanese) [https://jams.med.or.jp/journal_list/index.html](https://jams.med.or.jp/journal_list/index.html)
The goals of this project were to compare research integrity content in Instructions for Authors in ICMJE member journals with those in the English- and Japanese-language journals of the Japanese Association of Medical Sciences (JAMS). Therefore, this dataset contents include the following three categories: 1) journals' background information, 2) description numbers of research integrity topics, and 3) journal numbers that required ICMJE description forms in ICMJE member journals, English- and Japanese-language journals.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 0 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Average | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
