Abstract

El deterioro de los suelos y la disminución de su vida útil es una realidad agrícola, de la cual no escapa Ecuador. Ello debido al escaso conocimiento agronómico de los cultivos, principalmente el inadecuado uso de fertilizantes químicos que deterioran las condiciones del suelo. Una alternativa ante este problema es el empleo de abonos orgánicos que mejoran su estructura y reducen la contaminación ambiental. Los sedimentos del dragado de lagunas son una alternativa potencial de recuperación de suelos que se requiere explorar. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el comportamiento de sedimentos dragados de la laguna de Colta como abono orgánico alternativo para cultivos transitorios en el cantón Ibarra, provincia Imbabura. El sitio experimental fue la granja de la Escuela de Ciencias Agrícolas de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, sede Ibarra. La investigación consistió en aplicar cuatro dosis distintas de los sedimentos extraídos de aquellas; los mismos fueron procesados como abono mediante un secado, oxigenado, compostado, inoculación con bacterias seleccionadas y finalmente tamizados; posteriormente fueron incorporados al suelo mediante una mezcla dosificada en base al peso del suelo de área 3 x 1 x 0.20 m. Los beneficios de la práctica se evidenciaron a través de los datos de rendimiento, así como los resultados de calidad de suelos antes y después de la aplicación del sedimento. Se demuestra que la estrategia utilizada a través del uso de lodos en la agricultura es una alternativa eficaz para recuperar suelos degradados; promoviéndose así, la práctica de una agricultura sostenible.
