Abstract

Warum soll überhaupt etwas sein, und nicht vielmehr nichts? Auf diese ethische Grundfrage ging Hans Jonas in seinem Prinzip Verantwortung zurück, um die bereits in den 1970ern klar ersichtliche ökologische Selbstgefährdung der Menschheit in eine philosophische Herausforderung zu übersetzen. Sebastian A. Maier-Höpfl folgt Jonas auf seinem Argumentationsgang, der angesichts der Polykrisen des 21. Jahrhunderts kaum an Relevanz verloren hat. Dabei zeigt Höpfl, dass Jonas die Fundamentalontologie seines Lehrers Martin Heidegger zu einer bio-ontologisch fundierten Verantwortungsethik weiterentwickelt, in der allerdings die zwischenmenschliche Praxis vernachlässigt bleibt. Statt mit Jonas die Sicherung ökologischer Lebensgrundlagen gegen das menschliche Bedürfnis sozialer Kooperation auszuspielen, will Höpfl beides im Begriff der Verantwortung zusammendenken. Im Anschluss an eine kritische Bemerkung Hannah Arendts gegenüber Jonas reformuliert er das Prinzip Verantwortung als dialogischen Anspruch, für ein gutes Zusammenleben auf dem gemeinsamen Planeten Erde Sorge zu tragen. Das Buch richtet sich an Forschende, Studierende und Interessierte in den Themenbereichen Philosophie und Ethik. Es wurde mit dem MTZ-Förderpreis für Bioethik 2024 ausgezeichnet.
