Abstract

"In den Jahren 1996–1998 wurde im Hofbereich der Principia der 21. und der 11. Legion des Legionslagers von Vindonissa eine Ausgrabung durchgeführt. Hier wurden sieben Holzbauperioden nachgewiesen, deren Auswertung im vorliegenden Band präsentiert werden. Die ältesten Befunde im Grabungsareal sind Pflugspuren. Das Areal wurde also vor der 1. Holzbauperiode, in römischer oder vorrömischer Zeit, landwirtschaftlich genutzt. Die ersten vier Holzbauperioden datieren in augusteische Zeit und sind einer bislang kaum bekannten vorlagerzeitlichen Siedlung zuzuweisen, die sich westlich des «Keltengrabens» erstreckte. Die drei jüngeren Holzbauperioden datieren in tiberisch-frühclaudische Zeit. Das Gebäude der 5. Holzbauperiode gehört zum so genannten «schrägen» Lager und die Gebäude der 6. und 7. Holzbauperiode sind Teil des «geraden» Lagers."
