Abstract

Prof. Dr. Ludwig Berger (22.1.1933–16.10.2017) war eine der prägenden Persönlichkeiten der Ur- und Frühgeschichtlichen und Provinzialrömischen Archäologie in der Schweiz. Als Forscher und akademischer Lehrer hat er die Entwicklung des Fachs, aber auch dessen Reputation in der internationalen scientific community und dessen Ansehen in der breiteren Öffentlichkeit während über 60 Jahren maßgeblich mitgestaltet. Im Nachgang eines zu seinen Ehren veranstalteten «memorials», das am 27. Januar 2018 im Auditorium der Römerstiftung Dr. René Clavel in Augusta Raurica (Augst / BL) abgehalten wurde, entstand die Idee, seine rund 80 Aufsätze, Rezensionen und anderen Schriften zu sammeln und in gebündelter Form vorzulegen. Etwas abweichend von der Norm, werden in den «Kleinen Schriften» aber nicht nur alle von «Louis» Berger (mit-)verfassten Aufsätze, Rezensionen und anderen Schriften vorgelegt, sondern auch ein exklusiver Scoop bzw. Primeur – nämlich ein (weiterer) Aufsatz zu den Messerfutteralbeschlägen.
