Data sharing initiatives like Gaia-X or EU Data Spaces will boost data monetisation in the European Union. However, accessing them can be challenging for SMEs. With the right tools in place, European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) must become the local catalyst for data economy, both for their local ecosystems, but also facilitating access to data spaces to their ecosystems, adopting the role of data space intermediaries. In this paper, we describe how this role could be performed by EDIHs or similar roles, like BDVA i-Spaces. To achieve this, we also present the technical approaches followed in Wisephere and DATAMITE, frameworks that could be adopted by any EDIH to play this role.
