Thorndike, in his study of the effects of continued work for 4 h on writing poetry, found that speed of work is not benefited by rest, but the satisfaction of the work gets greatly enhanced by rest. I. E. Ash found noticeable fatigue in steady adding for periods of even 1 hr. E.
