Abstract

Die folgenden Untersuehungen nahmen ihren Ausgang yon einer Beobachtung, die bei Gelegenheit von vergleichenden Versuchen fiber die Wirkung yon l~6ntgenstrahlen verschiedener Wellenl~nge an Eiern des I)ferdespulwurms gemacht wurdel). Es zeigte sich n~mlieh, dal~ die Empfindlichkeit der Eier ffir R6ntgenstrahlen nicht nur beim Vergleich yon Eiern verschiedener Entwicklungsstadien (Einoder Mehrzellenstadium) sich voneinander unterscheidet, sondern dab sie aueh in versehiedenen Phasen des Einzellenstadiums variiert, indem sie kurz vor dem Beginn der Zweiteilung stark zunimmt und nach der vollzogenen Zweiteilung" rasch wieder absinkt. Die Uberlegungen. worin dieses auff~llige Verhalten der Askarideneier seinen Grund haben k6nne, ffihrten unter Beriicksichtigung des bisher vorliegenden Beobachtungsmaterials zu verschiedenen Erkl~rungsm6glichkeiten, so dal3 weitere Versuche angezeigt erschienen, um das Wesen des sich hier offenbar verbergenden gesetzm~l~igen Verhaltens der Zelle aufzukl~ren. Die bisherigen Erfahrungen fiber den Zusammenhang zwischen ROntgenstrahlenempfindlichkeit und Zellcharakter sh~d am sch~rfsten zusammengefal~t in dem Gesetz von B e r g o n i 6 und T r i b o n d e a u 2 ) , nach welchem die l~Sntgenstrahlen um so starker auf die Zelle wirken, 1. je gr6Ber die reproduzierende F~higkeit der Zelle ist, 2. je l~nger ihr karyokinetischer Werdegang ist (,,que leur devenir karyokin6tique est plus long") und 3. je weniger ihre Morphologie und ihre Funktionen endgfiltig festgelegt sind (,,que leur morphologie et leurs fonetions sont moins definitivement fix6es"). Von diesen drei S~tzen sind der elste und dritte ohne weiteres zu verstehen, der zweite Satz wird verst~ndlich, wenn man berficksiehtigt,
