Ridgeway, Mo., Jan. 29, 1908. To the Editor: —Within the last ten days I have had four cases of infected finger, in which the finger had been lanced under the use of some freezing agent, and desire to call attention to the facts that such agents should be used with care and that there is danger connected with their use, the claims of the promoters to the contrary notwithstanding. There was refrigeration to actual necrosis of tissue, varying from a narrow circle to entire width of the integument over the second phalanx of the index finger; while the tissues underneath were completely necrosed to the bone, from 5 mm. to 2 cm. in diameter. Being frozen and thus devitalized, unless removed, the tissues are in a most suitable condition for further bad results. The treatment is self-evident.
