A Two-phase Approach for Dynamic Lightpath Scheduling

Abstract

Lightpath scheduling is an important capability in next-generation wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks to reserve resources in advance for a specified time period while provisioning high-speed data transmission. This approach enables efficient utilization of network resources, reduces latency, and improves overall network performance. By dynamically scheduling lightpaths, network operators can optimize network capacity, minimize congestion, and ensure reliable data transmission. The two-phase approach involves first identifying the required resources and then allocating them to the scheduled lightpaths. This method ensures that the network resources are utilized optimally, reducing the risk of network congestion and improving the overall quality of service.
