T-tube drainage of the common bile duct, following common bile duct exploration for choledocholithiasis, is a common procedure. Despite its important advantages, this procedure has its own morbidity. it has been reported that closure of the common bile duct without T-tube drainage can be done safely in order to avoid the morbidity of the T-tube drainage. in this retrospective study, we compared the postoperative results of the patients who underwent T-tube drainage (n=12) or primary closure (n=11) following common bile duct exploration. There was no difference between the two groups regarding the postoperative complications. Postoperative hospitalisation time was found shorter in primary closure group. p<0.001 (Mann Whitney U-Wilcoxon's test), in summary, primary closure of the common bile duct can be an alternative procedure to T-tube drainage following elective common bile duct exploration for choledocholithiasis,
