Abstract

Abstract: Stenocorse is a monotypic genus with extensive neotropical distribution and host range, but without recent studies. A synopsis of Stenocorse was made studying collections from Mexico and Colombia. The statistical analyses were doing in two stages. In the first one, 73 individuals from Colombia, the United States and Mexico were selected. Fifteen structures were measured. Principal components analyses (PCA) with intact measurements, proportions, and variables as defined in the literature showed a group formed by specimens of Colombia and another by specimens from the United States and Mexico. The length of the malar space and the length between lateral ocellus and eye have high discrimination power. The width and length of the head, and length and width of the posterior femur provide little information. In the second phase, 304 individuals from Colombia, the United States, Mexico and Nicaragua were analyzed; PCA and DFA showed a group from Colombia and another from the other countries. The specimens by locality and host plant of Colombia showed no differentiation. The individuals of Chiapas and Veracruz are different to those from Mexico, Puebla, and Morelos. Of the 37 characters selected for the description of the species, 30 discrete and seven continuous, only the coloration of the stigma, presence of notaulus, lobe in the tarsal claw, form of the lower-anterior part of the metapleura, basal part of the pleural hull and length of the ovipositor/length of metasoma showed taxonomic value. Stenocorse bruchivora is recorded from the United States to Nicaragua. A new species from Colombia and another from Mexico are described.
