Abstract

The paper considers aspects of producing steels with improved machinability used in serial and mass production of high-duty machine parts. Problems arising in melting freemachining steels are reviewed and an alternative to traditional alloying elements increasing machinability is proposed. Possibility of alloying a structural steel grade with tin is discussed and efficiency of the process is estimated.
