Abstract

Satellite and cable were the first techniques (which were used) to sent digital broadcastings and soon also came along a technique based on the terrestrial network. The standards of these techniques are based on the standard family of the first generation. In the 21st century people were talking about the transition to HD broadcastings and soon it became clear that the features of the DVB standard family of the first generation wouldn't be able to meet the needs of the requirements of HD broadcasting in particular for the terrestrial network. Also different kinds of portable terminals such as mobile phones began to be very popular and applications for these like mobile TV require more efficient technique to operate at the level of modern requirements. The standar family of the second generation is the answer to these requirements. DVB-S2, DVB-C2, DVB-T2 and DVB-SH are these new standards from which are expected a lot. In my thesis I'm studying what this new standard family of the second generation brings along compared to the old standard family. I also discuss how the introduction of the new standards has been successful in Finland and abroad.

Satelliitti ja kaapeli olivat ensimmäiset tekniikat, joilla lähettiin digitaalisia televisiolähetyksiä ja mukaan astui pian myös maanpäälliseen verkkoon perustuva tekniikka. Näiden tekniikoiden standardit perustuvat ensimmäisen sukupolven standardiperheeseen. 2000–luvulla kuitenkin alettiin puhua siirtymisestä teräväpiirtolähetyksiin ja pian tulikin selväksi, ettei ensimmäisen sukupolven DVB–standardiperhe riittäisi ominaisuuksiltaan teräväpiirtolähetysten vaatimuksille erityisesti maanpäällisen verkon osalta. Myös erilaiset kannettavat päätelaitteet kuten matkapuhelimet alkoivat olla jo todella yleisiä, ja näille tehtävät sovellukset kuten esimerkiksi mobiilitelevisio vaativat tehokkaampaa tekniikkaa toimiakseen nykyajan vaatimusten tasolla. Toisen sukupolven standardiperhe on vastaus näihin vaatimuksiin. DVB-S2, DVB-C2, DVB-T2 ja DVB-SH ovat nämä uudet standardit joilta odotetaan paljon. Tutkin työssäni, mitä uutta tämä uusi toisen sukupolven standardiperhe tuo mukanaan verrattuna vanhaan standardiperheeseen. Tutustun myös siihen, miten uusien standardien käyttöönotto on onnistunut Suomessa että maailmalla.
