Abstract

FUNDAMENTO: E possivel que diferentes formas de locomocao, quando executadas a uma mesma velocidade, influenciem de forma distinta as respostas fisiologicas e perceptivas ao esforco. OBJETIVO: Comparar as respostas cardiorrespiratorias e de percepcao subjetiva ao esforco, ao caminhar e ao correr nas mesmas velocidades, determinadas a partir da velocidade de transicao caminhada-corrida (VTCC) METODOS: A partir de uma amostra inicial de 453 sujeitos em servico militar obrigatorio, foram selecionados 12 homens adultos jovens e criteriosamente homogeneizados quanto ao sexo, idade, caracteristicas antropometricas, condicao aerobica e experiencia em exercicios na esteira rolante. Em sessoes preliminares, foi determina individualmente a VTCC. Posteriormente, em tres dias diferentes, os sujeitos caminharam e correram, em ordem balanceada, em cada uma das seguintes velocidades: VTCC, VTCC - 0,5 km/h e VTCC + 0,5 km/h, com obtencao de medidas de gases expirados, da frequencia cardiaca (FC) e da percepcao de esforco. RESULTADOS: O protocolo para deteccao da VTCC mostrou-se altamente reprodutivel (r=0,92; p 0,05). CONCLUSAO: A caminhada em velocidades acima da VTCC tende a ser mais estressante do ponto de vista fisiologico e perceptivo. Parece conveniente determinar individualmente a VTCC e padronizar a forma de locomocao para a uma prescricao mais fisiologica e fidedigna da intensidade dos exercicios aerobios.
