Abstract

L'accueil reserve aux films maghrebins aux Etats-Unis, a travers l'etude du film Satin Rouge [Satin Rouge, Raja Amari, 2002] par Florence Martin dans le numero 89-90 de la revue Africultures consacre aux Cinemas du Maghreb et leurs publics est le point de depart de cet article qui se concentre sur la reception du film tunisien Satin Rouge, et des films algeriens Viva Laldjerie [Nadir Mokneche, 2004], et Rachida [Yamina Bachir-Chouikh, 2002] lors du huitieme festival du film arabe de San Francisco de 2004. Notre propos est de rendre compte de l'analyse de Martin qui se concentre sur le relais mediatique et universitaire de la reception de Satin Rouge, tout en prolongeant cette lecture en explorant un autre vehicule de diffusion privilegie des films aux Etats-Unis, celui des festivals. Ce faisant, nous proposons une analyse comparee de la reception du corps feminin maghrebin par le public californien a travers la reception de celui de deux actrices arabes emblematiques, la palestinienne Hiam Abbass (Satin Rouge) et la marocaine Lubna Azabal (Viva Laldjerie) qui incarnent a l'ecran deux versions distinctes de la femme arabe.
