Palestra "Medindo e aprimorando o desempenho humano por meio de tecnologias adaptativas" — Ludymila Ribeiro Borges (Lecture "Measuring and improving human performance through adaptive technologies" — Ludymila Ribeiro Borges)

Abstract

--------------- The lecture "Measuring and improving human performance through adaptive technologies", given by Ludymila Ribeiro Borges, presented different applications of Biomedical Engineering, Neuroengineering and artificial intelligence in the development of technologies aimed at autonomy, inclusion and improvement of quality of life. During the presentation, projects related to the control of wheelchairs by facial muscle contractions, eye movements, facial expressions and brain-computer interfaces were addressed. Virtual and augmented reality training environments, adaptive control systems, and computer vision applications to track users' attention and eye movements were also discussed. The lecture also highlighted the importance of usability and user participation in the development of assistive technologies, showing that individual needs, intentions and characteristics should guide the creation of solutions. In this context, studies were presented that compared the perspectives of users and developers and demonstrated the need for evaluations more focused on the experience of those who use the technology. Other topics covered included deep brain stimulation, binaural beats, EEG analysis of brain activity, neural connectivity, visual attention, and the use of machine learning models to identify the direction of gaze. The speaker also shared her academic and professional trajectory in Brazil and Canada, highlighting how different areas of knowledge can be integrated in the creation of more efficient, personalized and human-centered adaptive technologies. The lecture was held as an activity linked to the project "Parkinson Brazil: Database of motor and non-motor aspects for the advancement of automated assessment of Parkinson's disease in Brazil", CNPq process No. 444437/2024-0, funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
