Estudio seroepidemiológico de la hepatitis A en la comunidad de Madrid durante el año 2002

Abstract

Introduccion El objetivo del estudio fue conocer la prevalencia y los factores de riesgo relacionados con la infeccion por el virus de la hepatitis A (VHA), con el fin de seleccionar a los individuos que pueden beneficiarse de la instauracion de una estrategia vacunal, asi como la determinacion de la edad limite que no requiere determinacion previa de anticuerpos anti-VHA. Metodos En el periodo de abril a septiembre de 2002 se estudiaron 557 personas, 90 ninos y 467 donantes de sangre, con edades entre 1 y 65 anos. Antes de la extraccion se excluyo la existencia de cualquier enfermedad hepatica y se recogieron los datos de edad, sexo, lugar de residencia y nivel de estudios. La determinacion serica de anticuerpos anti-VHA (IgG) se realizo con una tecnica inmunoenzimatica comercial. Para el estudio estadistico se utilizaron las pruebas de chi cuadrado de Pearson y Mantel-Haenszel. Resultados La prevalencia global de anticuerpos anti-VHA (IgG) es del 41,5%. La prevalencia aumenta con la edad de forma significativa (χ2TL = 205; p Conclusiones La prevalencia de anticuerpos anti-VHA ha disminuido en estos ultimos anos en la comunidad de Madrid, y se ha encontrado que el 75% de los individuos menores de 35 anos son susceptibles a la infeccion por VHA y pueden beneficiarse de una estrategia vacunal universal sin previo cribado.
