Abstract

Con la finalidad de abordar un asunto desatendido en la recepción de la novela, el presente artículo analiza la centralidad asumida por el sentido de la vista en Soldados de Salamina (2001) de Javier Cercas. Con base en los Estudios Literarios Cognitivos, mi intención es demostrar que la novela describe de forma precisa no solo la facultad de la vista, sino más significativamente determinados procesos cognitivos asociados a ella. De esta forma, es mi hipótesis que la visualidad responde a una función narrativa esencial en la novela: recrear la experiencialidad de los personajes, entendida esta como la evocación cuasi mimética de la experiencia de los hechos por parte de un protagonista humano, la cual activa en el lector una serie de procesos cognitivos similares a los experimentados en la vida real (Fludernik). Con todo esto, pretendo contribuir en última instancia al estudio de la interrelación productiva entre el cuerpo, la visión y la textualidad en una obra fundamental de la literatura hispánica reciente.
